Life in general, and fried gnocchi!

I just stumbled across Fat Mum Slim's post about being harassed by appliances, and I too am being harassed!
We bought a new microwave not long ago after I noticed our old one (it was my Nanna's, so it was probably 20 years old) overheating when I steamed rice in it, and the new one we have lets out a 'beep beep' when it's finished. But, after 2 to 3 minutes of not opening the door it 'beep beeps' again. It goes on 'beep beep'ing every 2 to 3 minutes infinitely it seems. It's one of the most annoying things, EVER.  Even my oven timer eventually gets the message and stops beeping!
I guess I wouldn't normally have a problem with it, I don't watch much TV during the day or anything. But when I'm breastfeeding and can't get up for 20 minutes, it gets bloody annoying!

Does anyone else have a microwave that gets crazy about being opened the moment it's done?? I thought it was just me!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was at my mum's for the day this week, and as I was looking for something to watch on Foxtel, (man I wish we could afford that, or justify it to be honest), I switched over to Lifestyle Food to watch Nigella. I'm not a huge fan of Nigella, something about her sexiness in the kitchen makes me a little envious, but I have tried some of her recipes before and they turned out to be good. I like the way that she doesn't use fresh ingredients all the time on her show, she'll use squeezy lime and lemon juice, which is probably forbidden in the world of cooking shows! (But seriously who in 'real life' has fresh lemons and limes on hand 24/7??)
But the other day she made something that sounded pretty amazing, (and a bit clever - curse her sexy food brain!), she called it 'Rapid Roastini'.

Basically, it's vacuum packed store bought gnocchi posing in the form of 'mini roast potatoes' after being fried into crispy little morsels.

Mmmmmmmm...

I cannot WAIT to try this! We eat gnocchi on a regular basis, in a normal fashion with tomato based sauce, and I'm a huge fan of starchy carbs :)

Here's the "recipe" if you're interested - Rapid Roastini
I know it says to use 'fresh gnocchi', but I did a little research and apparently Nigella only uses the dried frozen or vaccum packed gnocchi - not fresh made, and not the type you can buy fresh in the fridge at the supermarket.

I'm interested to try it to see if it actually is like mini roast potatoes, or if it would still be suitable as a 'pasta'. I'm pretty excited to see if I can actually get it to work really!
I should add that I buy a gluten free gnocchi, which is delicious, so if you do have problems with gluten this recipe would still work for you.

Have you seen or tried an intriguing recipe lately?

  1. I'd never thought about frying gnocchi, sounds interesting.
Probably the most interesting thing I've made lately is veggie patties using this 'formula': http://www.nomeatathlete.com/veggie-burger-recipe/
They were yummy, even hubs enjoyed them 2 nights in a row. :)

  2. Oh, and our microwave does the same thing. So does our washing machine.
